The role
Chess.com needs a freelance English-Japanese translator for its apps, marketing campaigns and learning content. Work is paid per word, with a variable workload and some fast turnarounds.
What you'll do
- Translate the interfaces of all Chess.com apps, including ChessKid and Dr Wolf
- Translate marketing campaigns, Coach analysis, Game Review and courses
- Translate and edit graphical assets
- Review earlier translations and keep quality high

Must-haves
- Native or near-native English and Japanese
- Professional experience translating complex texts between the two
- Strong chess knowledge and command of its terminology
- Clear, responsive communication on Slack
- Meets deadlines, sometimes 24-48 hours including weekends
