The role
Customer.io needs a staff engineer to make architectural calls on its distributed Go messaging systems. You'll also take on cross-squad problems and raise the bar for the engineers around you.
What you'll do
- Shape the technical direction of distributed messaging systems in Go
- Drive ambiguous, cross-squad problems to a decision
- Build consensus on contested technical questions and explain the tradeoffs
- Set quality and design standards and mentor senior engineers
- Improve engineering process and tooling across multiple squads

- 10+ years building scalable, distributed systems in Go or similar languages
- Recognized expertise across more than one system or domain
- Track record of quantifying tradeoffs in throughput, cost and reliability
- Observability and recovery designed in from the start
- Cloud-native experience (AWS, GCP) and relational databases such as MySQL
