The role
Supabase is hiring a founding engineer for Spark, a Rust implementation of Supabase on an embedded SQLite engine with a Postgres-compatible layer. You'll own large areas end to end, from API compatibility to the upgrade path to full Supabase.
What you'll do
- Grow API compatibility with the Supabase client, backed by conformance tests
- Bring more of the Supabase stack to Turso/SQLite
- Build the upgrade path from Spark to full Supabase
- Own the CLI, local tooling and docs
- Work with design partners to turn migration friction into product fixes

- Substantial backend or full-stack experience with production Rust
- Solid SQL and relational database grounding, including transactions and MVCC
- Good Postgres knowledge, used as the reference for correct behavior
- Ability to read unfamiliar code in Go and Haskell and match its behavior in Rust
- Clear written communication on a remote, async team
Nice to have
- Experience with the Supabase stack or building developer CLIs
- Open-source maintenance track record
- Contributions to Rust database or web projects
