The role
Pliant needs a first-hire engineering manager to build its Developer Experience team from zero, staying hands-on while owning CI/CD, the Service Registry and AI tooling. The role is remote across the EU.
What you'll do
- Own the golden path: deployment templates, CI/CD patterns and onboarding flows
- Track golden path adoption, deployment lead time and time-to-first-deploy
- Lead the team building Pliant's AI harness for coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor
- Hire the team from zero and set the technical bar
- Stay hands-on, coding and reviewing designs alongside your engineers
What they're looking for
Must-haves
- 4+ years of Python development, including 2+ years in leadership
- Hands-on experience building CI/CD systems, developer portals or golden paths
- Deep Kubernetes platform knowledge: RBAC, admission control, cluster APIs
- Daily use of AI coding tools and the ability to coach others
- Experience hiring engineers; fluent English
Nice to have
- Go experience
- Fintech or regulated-environment experience (PCI DSS, SOC2)
- Familiarity with reading Java and Kotlin stack traces
