The role
Babylist is hiring a technical lead for a new Search team to move search in-house and make it personalized, unified across retailers and conversational. You'll set direction and stay in the code.
What you'll do
- Build search in-house, from indexing and retrieval to serving, and plan the migration
- Define how result quality is measured and improve it through query understanding and ranking
- Unify search across items sold, other retailers' items, guides and registries
- Work with the Addie AI assistant team to make search conversational
- Coach senior engineers and set standards for building with AI
What they're looking for
Must-haves
- Hands-on production search experience: indexing, retrieval, ranking, query understanding
- Experience evaluating search quality offline and online, including A/B tests
- Ability to tie search changes to shopper behavior, conversion or revenue
- Comfort building a system from zero and owning it end to end
- Track record of changing how a team builds with AI
